Hawkeyes chasing Defending Champ Penn State at NCAA Wrestling

Despite winning 6 of 7 second round matches, the Iowa Hawkeyes still find themselves chasing 2-Time defending champion Penn State at the NCAA Wrestling Championships at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The Hawkeyes advanced 6 of their 9 qualifiers into the Friday's quarterfinal round and enter day 2 in fourth place with 22 points.  Penn State is in first with 32.5 followed by Oklahoma State with 29 and Minnesota is in 3rd with 24.

157 - #2 Derek St. John (IOWA) vs. Joshua Kreimier (AFA), 9-5 (2:21 RT)
174 - #3 Mike Evens (IOWA) maj. Phillip Joseph (EMU), 11-3 (2:46 RT)
184 - #12 Ethen Lofthouse (IOWA) dec. #5 Kevin Steinhaus (MINN), 3-2
 
UNI which won all four first round matches advanced David Bonin at 157 and Ryan Loder at 184 to the quarterfinal round. While Iowa State advanced unseeded Tanner Weather at 174 to the quarterfinal round. Former Waterloo East star Kyven Gadson lost 8-7 in the second round to Blake Rosholt of Oklahoma State snapping Gadson's 15 match winning streak. Gadson had beaten Rosholt in three previous meetings this season including the Big 12 Finals just 12 days ago.

Preseason football, that is.  KWWL is airing all four Green Bay Packer preseason football games both its main channel and the CW.  This Sunday, August 19, the Packers head to Maryland to play the Redskins at 6:30 p.m. This will be on the CW, however only syndicated shows will be affected so there isn't anything re-airing. Next Saturday, August 26, the Packers head to Denver to play the Broncos at 8:00 p.m. on KWWL. The KWWL News at 10 will run on the CW....
