Animal Control shelter in Cedar Rapids breaks ground Wednesday

A new facility for the Animal Control shelter in Cedar Rapids will break ground on Wednesday.

The old facility was destroyed by the 2008 floods.

Officials will break ground at 1 p.m. at the new location behind Washington Hall on the Kirkwood College Campus.

The new facility is expected to open in October.
