CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Cedar Falls Police say a man who was hospitalized Monday night after accidentally shooting himself at a convenience store was an employee of the store and was not attempting to rob the store.

Captain Michael Hayes says officers were called to B & B West at 3105 Hudson Road in Cedar Falls at around 11:04 p.m. Monday for a report of an accidental shooting.

Hayes says the man, Jeffrey Fox, 22, told officers that he accidentally shot himself in the hand while removing a handgun from his pants.

Hayes says that Fox is an employee of the store, and that "he was not robbing the store," according to an email sent Tuesday afternoon.

Fox was taken to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
