Black Hawk County K-9 granted bulletproof vest

Black Hawk County's newest K-9 will receive a protective vest thanks to a fundraiser through Groupon.
Loki, a two year old Belgian Malinois, was picked as one of the police dogs that will receive a bullet- and stab-protective vest.
The grassroots campaign, which is sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s Inc., hopes to raise nearly $100,000 to provide 100 police K-9s with vests nationwide.
"With the K-9s, they're going into an area first," said Deputy Matt Harris of the Black Hawk County Sheriffs department. "There usually our first line of defense going into a house to search for somebody or an open area in a field or something. ... They should have every bit of the protection that we have afforded to us."

The campaign ends Wednesday, March 20 at 11:59 p.m. eastern time.
