Iowa's unemployment remains at 5.0 percent

Iowa's unemployment rate remains at 5.0 percent for the month of January. That's a slight improvement from last January's 5.4 percent.

Iowa Workforce Development's monthly report says that 19,500 non-farm related jobs were added during the last year.

Even still, $65,541,609 was paid in unemployment insurance claims during January 2013 in Iowa. That's up from $37,136,163 in December 2012.

U.S. unemployment was reported at 7.9 percent for January.
