UPDATE: Four people hospitalized after accident on Highway 30

Four people were taken to the hospital Monday evening following an accident on Highway 30 west of U.S. 218.

Benton County Deputy Sheriff Ron Tippett said it was a weather-related accident involving two vehicles where one car spun out in front of the other.

The Iowa State Patrol says Haleigh Hayes, 20, of Cedar Rapids, was headed west on Highway 30 at around 5:11 p.m. when she lost control, crossed the center line and spun.

Her car was then rear-ended by a pick-up driven by Jacob Nolan, 28, of Atkins.

Troopers say two people in Hayes' vehicle, 26-year-old Trenton McCleary and 21-year-old Austin Kness, were airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Hayes and Nolan were taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

The accident remains under investigation.
