ISU grabs 10 seed, opens against Notre Dame

AMES (KWWL) -

Iowa State is dancing.  The Cyclones had to wait until the final region before hearing their name.  ISU picked up the #10 seed in the West Region and will open up against 7th seeded Notre Dame in the first round of the tournament.  That game will be played in Dayton, Ohio.  The winner will likely have to play second seeded Ohio State in the second round.

The Cyclones earned their way in to the tournament by exceeding expectations for the second straight year.  They were picked to finish 8th in the Big 12 preseason poll.  Fred Hoiberg's squad wound up tied for 4th with Oklahoma with an 11-7 conference record.

Iowa State and Notre Dame have met up just one previous time.  The Irish knocked off the Cyclones 87-77 in 1979.
