Heartbreak for the Hawks as Michigan State rallies for win

Posted:
CHICAGO (KWWL) -

Iowa may have seen their NCAA hopes evaporate as Michigan State rallied from a late 12 point deficit for a 59-56 win Friday night.

The Hawkeyes, void of a signature win on their resume, came so close to finally getting one.  A Zach McCabe 3 pointer with just over 10 minutes would give Iowa a 12 point lead.  Michigan State, however, countered with a 22-2 run for an 8 point lead.  The Hawks battled back, but Devyn Marble's 3 point attempt to tie in the final seconds clanked harmlessly off the iron.

Adreian Payne led the way with 19 points for the Spartans.  Eleven different Hawkeyes scored in the game, although none hit double digits.

Michigan State has eliminated Iowa from the Big Ten tournament in 3 consecutive seasons.
