Iowa State rallies to defeat Oklahoma

KANSAS CITY (KWWL) -

Melvin Ejim tallied another double-double as Iowa State rallied from a large deficit to defeat Oklahoma 73-66 in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals.

Ejim led the way with 23 points and 12 rebounds in the winning effort.  Will Clyburn added 17, many which came during a furious Cyclone rally in the final 10 minutes.

Iowa State struggled in the early going falling behind 6-0 quickly in the ball game.  The Sooners would stretch their lead to 14 as the Cyclones hit just 2 of their first 18 three point attempts.

The Cyclone hopes appeared to be fading in the second half when Cameron Clark converted a three point play for a 56-43 lead with under 10 minutes remaining.  The Sooners, however, converted just a single field foal in the final 9 and a half minutes.

Iowa State, meanwhile, didn't take their first lead of the game until Clyburn scored on the old fashioned three point play with 3:01 on the clock for a 63-62 advantage.  Senior Chris Babb would put the nail in the coffin with a 3 pointer from 5 feet beyond the arc for a 5 point lead with 37 seconds left on the clock.

The victory was Iowa State's first in the Big 12 tournament since 2005.
