WATERLOO (KWWL) -

About 5,800 people in and around Waterloo were without power for part of Wednesday evening, but MidAmerican says all of the outages were fixed by 8:30 p.m.

The power went out 4:59 p.m. Wednesday, and customers went without power for anywhere between one and three and half hours. During the peak period of the outages, 5,800 customers in northeast Iowa were out of power.

According to MidAmerican's outage map, this included customers in Waterloo, Elk Run Heights, Evansdale, Raymond, Gilbertville, and rural Black Hawk County.

MidAmerican media relations manager Tina Potthoff said the outages were caused by equipment failures. Crews had to repair a broken switch and a jumper.
