UNI's Kalin receives two more honors

Jacqui Kalin received two big honors on the same day. Kalin has been named the 2013 College Sports Madness Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, and she was also named the MVC Scholar Athlete of the year for the second time in her illustrious career.

Kalin is only the second player in MVC history to earn the distinction twice. Kelsey Luna of Indiana State also won the award in 2009 and 2010. Kalin was also the first player in UNI history to be awarded the honor.

Kalin is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Kinesiology and Sports Psychology. The Sioux City native presently holds a 4.0 GPA. She was also honored this season by becoming the first player in UNI history to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America first team.

"The staff and team couldn't be more proud of Jacqui for what she has accomplished this season and in her career here at UNI," head coach Tanya Warren said.

Kalin was also named to the College Sports Madness MVC All-Conference first team. The senior from Sioux City, Iowa was honored three separate times this season by College Sports Madness by being named the College Sports Madness MVC Player of the Week on Dec. 31, Jan. 21 and Feb. 4.

Kalin is averaging 19.4 points per game and 20.6 points per game in conference play. She is the all-time leader in career points at UNI with 2,002 and three-pointers made with 252. She is the first female basketball player in UNI history to score 2,000 career points and just the third in UNI basketball history to reach that record.
