Community Assembles Easter Baskets for Military Members

DUNKERTON (KWWL) -

Lisa Shook took to Facebook to ask for some Girl Scout cookies. Her son, currently serving for the armed forces in Afghanistan, looks forward to distributing the treats to his troop.

However, this Easter season, Shook will be sending her son much more than a few boxes of cookies. Community members gathered in Dunkerton to assemble Easter baskets for all 170 members of her son's troop.

The event was originally supposed to take place at Shook's house but had to be moved to a local church to accommodate all of the volunteers. Members of local Girl Scout, Cub Scout, and 4H clubs lended their helping hands.

The baskets include candy, letters, and plenty of Girl Scout cookies. They will be sent out Wednesday and should arrive in Afghanistan before Easter Sunday.
