WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Waterloo Police responded to a report of a child being struck by a van shortly after school let out Monday.

Police say one person was taken to the hospital Monday after a van hit a child in Waterloo.  It happened around 3:30 p.m., in the 1100 block of Fulton Street.  A police report said the child was 7 or 8 years old, but since that time, family members have contacted us to let us know the person hit was 13-year-old Tony Hernandez.

The family says Hernandez was delivering newspapers when it happened.

He was released from the hospital with a broken ankle and two missing front teeth.
