Cottage Row Rd. residents wake up to flooding

Bud Hansen has lived on Cottage Row Road in Cedar Falls for years. Even seeing his camper under water doesn't discourage him from living along the Cedar River.

"It is beautiful out here," said Hansen.

Monday morning residents woke up to an ice jam on the Cedar River.  Most people there haven't seen it this bad in years.

"I think it was the early 70's one time we had an ice jam, but it wasn't this huge," said Hansen.

Now Hansen is worried about the ice.

"More than the water because the water comes in, it goes out, we clean it up, but the ice can do some real damage," said Hansen.

The city of Cedar Falls said they opened one flood gate, but the other three are frozen shut.

City officials said they are checking those gates periodically and they are monitoring the flooding in the area.

The Cedar River in Cedar Falls is expected to crest near flood stage Tuesday morning.
