Bonin, Lazor win MAC championships

Posted:

David Bonin and Joey Lazor recorded championships as UNI finished 3rd in their first go-around at the MAC Conference Wrestling Championships.

Missouri won the overall title with 136 points followed by Central Michigan.  The Panthers tallied 83 in their third place finish.

Lazor gave UNI their first title of the night at 141 pounds with a 1-0 decision over Nick Fanta of Northern Illinois.  The win was especially important for Lazor as the MAC was only allocated 1 automatic NCAA berth at the 141 pound weight.

Bonin used a late reversal plus riding time to defeat 15th ranked Kyle Bradley of Missouri for the title at 157 pounds.

The Panthers' Levi Wolfensperger and Ryan Loder also grabbed automatic qualifying spots for the NCAA tournament with runner-up finishes at 133 and 184 respectively.
