Waverly-Shell Rock had to come from behind for the 3rd straight game as the Go-Hawks defeated Harlan 48-41. The win secured the Go-Hawks first basketball state championship since 2007.
Klinton Carlson led the way scoring 14 points. The WSR senior was also named captain of the All-Tournament Team. Dan Stensland added 13 points in the championship victory.
WSR had to rally from an early deficit. Jake Daeges hit a second quarter 3 pointer that put Harlan on top by 8 points. The Go-Hawks would rally, and a Jake Velky three late in the half put WSR back on top by 3 at the break.
The win capped off an unlikely run after the Go-Hawks opened their first 7 games of the season with a 3-4 record.
