Waverly-Shell Rock boys advance to 3A State title game

The Waverly-Shell Rock boys basketball team advanced to the 3A State title game for the third time in six years with a 36-32 victory over Davenport Assumption in Thursday's semifinal round.

The Go-Hawks trailed much of the game after going scoreless for the first 7 minutes and six seconds.  Klinton Carlson led Waverly-Shell Rock with 12 points and eight rebounds as the Go-Hawks outscored Assumption 22-13 in the second half. Waverly-Shell Rock will play Harlan for the 3A State Title.

    Just hours after landing in Taipei the Iowa baseball team got right down to business, posting a 10-5 win over the Czech National Team in an exhibition contest Thursday afternoon. The Hawkeyes, representing team USA at the World University Games, got a pair of 3-run home runs out of Robert Neustrom to clinch the victory.

    The Missouri Valley Conference exercised an option to keep the men's basketball tournament in Saint Louis through at least 2020. The previous agreement ended in 2018 with a two year to remain at the Scottrade Center. The tournament, known as Arch Madness, will conduct it's 30th straight tournament in Saint Louis in 2020.
