Kalin scores 29 to lead UNI over Indiana State


The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team picked up its third win in a row tonight, defeating Indiana State 75-49, and securing fourth place in the conference.

Jacqui Kalin led both teams in scoring, finishing with 29 points and four assists. Amber Kirschbaum finished with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Jess McDowell added nine points and four rebounds.
The Panthers took an early 6-0 lead with Jen Keitel scoring four points in the first five minutes of the game. Indiana State didn't get on the board until the 14:30 mark in the first half when Natasha Zurek  hit the Sycamores first field goal of the game to make the score 6-2.
Indiana State went on a 8-1 run to tie the score 12-12 with 8:48 left in the half, but the Panthers took the lead again to end the run off a layup from Kalin to make the score 14-12. The Sycamores took a nine point lead with less than three minutes to play in the half, but UNI went on a 8-0 run to cut the lead to a point, making the score 27-26 heading into halftime.
UNI took the lead in the first two minutes of the second half when Jess McDowell and Brooke Brown hit back-to-back jump shots to make the score 30-27. The Panthers held an eight point lead heading into the first media timeout of the second half after Hannah Schonhardt drove through the lane for a quick layup, making the score 39-31.
The Panthers went on a 10-1 run, extending their lead into the double digits, making the score 49-34. Kalin capped off the run, knocking down her third three-pointer of the game. UNI held a lead of 56-38 with 7:38 left in the game with Brittni Donaldson hitting the Panthers' seventh three-pointer of the game.
UNI outscored the Sycamores 49-22 in the second half, coming away with the 75-49 victory. The Panthers will return to action Saturday at 2:00 p.m. when they face-off against Illinois State for Senior Day.
