Waverly-Shell Rock survived a roller coaster ride to defeat 3A defending champ Mount Pleasant 54-49 in overtime on Tuesday.
The Go-Hawks appeared to be in for an easy victory when Klinton Carlson scored on a fast break for a 32-22 lead in the third quarter. Mount Pleasant countered with a 24-8 run to take a 6 point lead with 2 minutes remaining in the game. The Go-Hawks pulled within 2 late, and Drew Demuth rebounded a Jake Velky miss and scored with 20 seconds left to send the game to overtime. W-SR outscored the Panthers 7-2 in the final period for the victory.
Carlson led Waverly-Shell Rock with 22 points in the victory. The Go-Hawks will face Davenport Assumption in Thursdays semifinals.
