Health officials warn of dangerous bacteria

Public health officials across the country are warning of a potentially dangerous and deadly bacteria found in many hospitals.

The bacteria, known as CRE, is becoming increasingly resistant to the most powerful antibiotics available.

The director of the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention has called the bacteria a "nightmare bacteria."

Up to half of all patients who become infected with CRE die. Cases of CRE infections increased seven fold over the past decade.
