DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Wapsie Valley ran into a juggernaut on Monday in a Danville team that's posted a 101 and 4 record
over the past four years.

And they came out on fire as Steven Soukup hits from downtown -- the Bears open the game on a 9, nothing run.

The Warriors kept fighting -- Collin Bergman gets the inside two to pull within 7.
A bit later Nick Gaul firing one in from outside -- Gaul led Wapsie with 10 in the game.
But Danville was too much -- Michael Soukup knocks down 3 of his team high 24 -- Bears led 40, 19 at half.  And Danville would put it away -- Connor Hogberg knocks down the triple -- Warriors fall to the top ranked Bears 78, 46.
Marty McKowen/Wapsie Valley Head Coach
"I told the kids after the game, great credit to them that they could've folded the tents a lot this year.  Very proud of what they did to get down here and play in the state tournament."

Lone Tree vs. Boyden-Hull in the other half of the bracket. Lone Tree looking to get past the defending champ Boyden-Hull.  Lions looked solid early.  Andy Dodson with 10 in the half, Lone Tree by 3 at the break.  Second half, Boyden-Hull comes alive.  Miguel Alvarado dials in the three.  Comets led 33, 28 going to the 4th.  but BryanForbes takes over for Lone Tree.
Forbes scored 29 and Lone Tree rallied to take a 42-41 lead in the fourth quarter.  but Boyden Hull's Riley Francis counters with a big 3 pointer.  Lone Tree falls in a thriller 58, 54.

North Tama vs. Ankeny Christian

North Tama's first trip to state saw the Red Hawks come from behind in a 47-45 first round victory.

The first half was rough -- Ankeny's Daniel Strong hits from deep -- they'd lead 25-15 at the half.

In the second half -- the Red Hawks finally clicked -- Skylar Kvidera gets the deuce to make it a 5 point game.
And then Dalton Hulme driving for the bucket -- they'd pull within 2 after 3.

Mitchell Boerm comes up big down the stretch leading the Red Hawks with 19 points.
North Tama 47 beats Ankeny Christian 45

Mitchell Boerm/19 Points, 7 Rebounds
"We weren't worried about what was around anymore.  We were worrying more about the team.  It's a big group of seniors and we had to do it for us."

Brandon Clubb/North Tama Head Coach
"They're a very mature group, and you play a lot of seniors, they play a lot of basketball, and I was hoping they had it in them, and I knew they had it in them, and they just kind of figured it out in the second half."
