Johnson County votes today for County Supervisor

Johnson County residents are casting their ballots today for a new county supervisor.

In January, Sally Stutsman resigned from the Johnson County Board of Supervisors to serve in the Iowa House of Representatives.

The candidates in the special election are Democrat Terry Dahms and Republican John Etheredge.

Dahms has served on the county's Planning and Zoning Commission for four years.

He said he wants to help make sure a new justice center is built. He also wants to make sure Johnson County residents don't slip through the cracks during the reorganization of mental health and developmental disabilities services.

Etheredge is a full-time retail employee. He's worked at several small businesses in the county and has spent most of his life living in rural Johnson County.

He said he wants to be a voice for farmers and other rural residents on the Board of Supervisors. He hopes to see better farm-to-market roads built.

The Johnson County Auditor's office says 1,831 early ballots have been returned.
