CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Thousands of people had a great breakfast - topped off with authentic, locally produced, Iowa Maple Syrup. Hartman Reserve's Maple Syrup Festival is a fundraiser for the Nature Center, located in Cedar Falls.

The all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast featured maple syrup processed from the sap of Hartman Reserve's Sugar Maple trees.

"We put a tube into the trees that have a bucket on it and the sap runs...down that, down that tube into the bucket, we bring it back here to the evaporator, we pour it into the evaporator, and then we boil it off, we boil off water, it leaves behind the sugar, and then we have maple syrup", said Chris Anderson, Program Director.

By the way, it takes 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup.
