DES MOINES (KWWL) -
Kayla Armstrong drove the lane scoring with 9 seconds left to push the Xavier Saints to the class 4A title over Harlan 53-52. The win secured Xavier's 4th state championship since 2003.
Armstrong's bucket came just 8 seconds after Harlan's Taylor Wagner scored to give the Cyclones a 52-51 lead. The Saints chose to not call a timeout, instead inbounding the ball right away. Armstrong then drive the length of the court for the game winning basket. Harlan would fail to get off a shot on their final possession.
Armstrong led the way with 23 points in the championship game. Wagner tallied 16 to lead Harlan.
