UNI Women delivers Warren here 100th win


The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team defeated the Evansville Purple Aces 70-57 Friday night with head coach Tanya Warren notching her 100th career win.

UNI had three players finish in double figures with Jess McDowell leading the team with 21 points. Jacqui Kalin finished with 20 points and eight assists while Amber Kirschbaum added 13 points and a career high 17 boards.
The Panthers opened the game on a 6-0 run against Evansville, capped off by a nice move inside by Kirschbaum. Evansville answered with a run of their own with a three-pointer from Chelsea Faulkstein to make the score 6-5 with 15:38 left in the first half.
Evansville tied the score at 14-14 with 10:17 on the clock off a three-pointer from Kat Taylor. The Purple Aces were able to take the lead out of the third media timeout with a three-pointer from Samantha Heck, but Brittni Donaldson answered with a big three to make the score 17-17 with 7:20 left in the half.
UNI finished the first half with a lead of 32-26 heading into halftime. The Panthers were led by Kirschbaum who finished the half with eight points and matched her season high rebounds with 11.
Kalin gave the Panthers a 41-34 lead over Evansville with 13:02 left in the game off a mid-range jumper, propelling her into double figures. McDowell put the Panther lead in double-digits with 11:32 on the clock off a three-pointer, making the score 44-34.
McDowell kept her sharp shooting alive with her sixth three-pointer of the game with less than 10 minutes left in the game, giving UNI a 52-40 lead. Evansville was able to go 7-0 run to cut the UNI lead to five, but Kirschbaum went strong to the basket and converted on her free throw to make the score 55-47 with 6:14 on the clock.
McDowell kept the Panther lead in double-digits with 3:23 left when she hit her seventh three-pointer of the game, tying the school record three-pointers made in a game and making the score 62-52. After the Purple Aces were forced to foul during the final minutes, the Panthers finished with a big 70-57 win over Evansville.
