DUNKERTON (KWWL) -

The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office says an accident near Dunkerton on Canfield Road sent four people to local hospitals on Thursday.

Deputy Steve Haas says they were called to 9000 block of North Canfield Road at around 8:21 a.m. Thursday for an accident.

Sherrena Ruenger, 24, of Cedar Rapids was headed north on Canfield Road when a van driven by Robert Shreve, 78, of Sumner lost control on the icy curve while headed south, according to Haas.

The van crossed the center line and collided head-on with Ruenger's vehicle, according to officials.

Ruenger was taken to Allen Hospital. Shreve and two passengers were taken to Covenant Medical Center. Haas said all injuries are considered non-life threatening.

Shreve was ticketed for failure to maintain control.
