AMES (KWWL) -
It was deja vu all over again for the Cyclones. Kansas erased a 5 point Iowa State lead in the final minute, sent the game to overtime, before cruising to a 108-96 victory in the extra session. It was the Jayhawks' second overtime win over Iowa State in the last 2 months.
One call, however, in the final seconds of regulation may have swayed the outcome. With Iowa State leading by 2, Kansas guard Elijah Johnson ran over Iowa State's Georges Niang on his way to the basket. Niang appeared to be planted, however no whistle came until seconds later when Niang was called for a foul in the ensuing scramble. Johnson would hit a pair of free throws to send the game to overtime where Kansas would eventually run away.
Johnson led the Jayhawks with a career high 39 points. Iowa State, meanwhile, hit a season high 17 3-pointers. Tyrus McGee came off the bench to hit 6, scoring 22 in the game. Korie Lucious led the Cyclones with 23 points.
