DES MOINES (KWWL) -
As the latest snow storm sweeps across Iowa, the Iowa Department of Public Safety and the Iowa State Patrol are reminding drivers to check 511 before traveling and call 911 in the case of an emergency.
The latest roadway conditions can be found by calling 511 on your phone or by visiting the state's web site at www.511ia.org.
You can also find those same conditions on KWWL's Road Conditions page.
Road conditions are determined and reported by the Iowa Department of Transportation and Iowa state troopers who are working through the storm.
The Iowa State Patrol recommends traveling with an emergency kit containing warm blankets and clothing, food, water and a fully-charged cell phone.
If your car is disabled or you are involved in a crash, the State Patrol is asking you to remain in your vehicle and immediately call 911.
This call will enable communications operators to mark your location and dispatch law enforcement or emergency responders to help you get to safety as soon as possible.
