Cedar Falls city plows preparing for winter blast - KWWL

City street crews have been tracking this storm right along with the meteorologists.

Cedar Falls Public Works have had trucks already out putting down a salt brine to pre-treat the roads. It takes a full eight hours to get that brine applied to priority streets.

They say the timing of this storm helps because they can plow streets late Thursday night into Friday morning before rush hour.

Official with Cedar Falls Public Works plan to issue a snow emergency. That means people need to move their vehicles off the streets or you could be ticketed and towed. 

If vehicles are not moved, it just makes extra work for the plow drivers. They say they expect to issue a snow emergency Thursday night.

"Makes it difficult for the trucks first of all and large equipment to pass as they're plowing to get as close as they can to the curb and when they have to go around the cars it makes it difficult and not only that once they follow up with a vehicle was parked there and it's moved then we have to go back and plow again," said Brian Heath, Operations & Maintenance Division Manager.

The city plows in Cedar Falls have also been assisting the city of Hudson. They have taken some of their trucks over there to apply their brine mixture to the streets.
