VINTON (KWWL) -

The Benton County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a vehicle belonging to a person that may have information concerning a dog that was shot Monday near Shellsburg.

Sheriff Randy Forsyth says a motorist found the dog lying near the road in the area of 30th Avenue and 61st Street Lane at around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

He says it appears the dog was shot three times with a pellet-type weapon.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian in Vinton and is expected to fully recover.

Forsyth is asking for the public's help in locating the owner of a small blue or teal pickup with matching topper that was seen in the vicinity near that time. He says the owner of the truck may have witnessed or has information about the incident.

There is a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved.

Call the Benton County Sheriff's Office at (319) 472-2337 if you have any information.
