A memorial for Lyric & Elizabeth gets a big donation

EVANSDALE (KWWL) -

First Security State Bank in Evansdale has donated $10,000 for a gazebo on the island in Meyers Lake in memory of abducted cousins Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins.

Elizabeth's parents, Drew and Heather Collins, were told about the donation Wednesday over the phone.

The park near Meyers Lake was renamed to honor Lyric and Elizabeth earlier this month.

The cousins were last seen by Meyers Lake before their disappearance on July 13, 2012. After hunters  found the girls' bodies this winter, the community started looking for ways to remember Lyric and Elizabeth.

Plans for the island will also include a pedestrian bridge.

Heather Collins says crews will start clearing the island in the next couple weeks.

Many volunteers in the area have also offered their time to help make this project happen, and donations are still being collected at the First Security State Bank in Evansdale.

Other donors include the Anamosa Penitentiary.

A concert fundraiser will also be announced on Thursday on 107.9 FM, and an even bigger fundraiser and a "Ride and Drive Memorial" will take place on the anniversary of when the girls went missing on July 13.
