Iowa First District Congressman, Bruce Braley, and the viral video star of "Iowa Nice" joined a forum on the impacts of social media at Wartburg College Tuesday.
Scott Siepker's "Iowa Nice" video became an Internet sensation before the Iowa Caucus's in 2011.
The humorous video shed light on some of Iowa's progressive history at a time when Iowa's first-in-the-nation status was up for debate. The video has over one-million views on YouTube.
Siepker's viral fame has given him regard as an ambassador for the state of Iowa. The 30-year-old actor and filmmaker wants to use his status to start dialogue about the role social media plays in politics and how it can be used to make our state and nation a better place.
Siepker believes while social media makes it easier for politicians to reach a wider and more diverse audience, it can also magnify partisanship and help spread misleading information more quickly.
