Waterloo franchise fee passes 5-2

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

 The Waterloo City Council passed a new utility franchise fee 5-2 Monday.

The fee will be attached to your gas or electric bill, starting at two percent next year.

It's an alternative to increasing property tax rates to keep the city's budget balanced.

The fee will replace a current one-percent local option sales tax on utility bills.
