DES MOINES (KWWL) -
The drought is over for Waterloo West. Junior Marcus Harrington defeated Adam Walther of Waverly-Shell Rock 5-4 to become the first Wahawk to win a state title since Akeem Carter won his second in 2002.
Harrington got in on a shot with just over a minute remaining to take a 5-2 lead. The 3 point edge gave him enough cushion to survive a Walther escape and a late point for stalling to pick up the victory.
The Wahawk senior finished the year with 50 straight victories after dropping a match to West Delaware's Jacyn Goebel in his first match of the season. It was a loss he avenged later in the year.
