CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Iowa's longest married couple was recognized Saturday afternoon in Cedar Rapids.

Jack and Ann Dwyer have been married for almost 78 years! They met at a dance when they were teenagers. Now he's 98 and she's 97.

A group called Worldwide Marriage Encounter honors the couple who's been married longest in each state every year. A church friend nominated the Dwyers.

The pair say the keys to a long marriage are patience and forgiveness.

"The Lord has been with us the whole time and given us pretty good health," said Ann. "We're thankful for all and thankful for our family."

The Dwyers have three children, 11 grandchildren, five great grand-children, four great great grandkids and 10 step great-grandchildren.

Several members of the family were at the ceremony Saturday.
