Despite all the fad diets and trends you've probably heard about or maybe even tried, local dietitians say the tried and true method of being healthy is still eating right.

Despite all the unhealthy choices Americans face when it comes to what we eat, healthy options are always available.
We just have to be willing to incorporate them on a regular basis say local dietitians.
"Changes they can make to get them closer to cooking from home, making things from scratch to get away from some of the convenience food because definitely the more whole foods, the natural foods we use the less additives we have the less questionable ingredients we have," said Mary Steffensmeier, a registered dietitian.
Longtime registered dietitian Mary Steffensmeier works with patients through Covenant Medical Center in waterloo.
She says these days the key is customization.

as for what to look for when reading the labels, serving size should be considered along with fat or sugar amounts.
