State Duals Semifinals

The top teams would dominate the duals action in Wednesday's afternoon semifinals --

Class 2-A's number one team West Delaware took it to Charles City -- at 182 pounds -- Thomas Oleson got the job done
roling to a 14, 2 major decision over the Comets Taylor Cole --

Jason Goebel would have to battle at 195 against Luke Johnson, but the Hawk senior picked up the only takedown of the match for a 3, 2
win -- West Delware rolled in to the semis with a 40, 21 team victory --

Jeff Voss/West Delaware Head Coach
"Everybody was 0 and 0, and our goal was to be 3 and 0 at the end of the day.  Now, we're one step closer, so we'll have to regroup here, see what the match-ups are like for the last one, and give it all we have."

In class 3-A -- Waverly-Shell Rock struggled against number one Southeast Polk -- at 132 WSR's Seth Walker battled Preston Phothiboupha
(Poe-ta-BOO-pah) into overtime before he fell 11, 9 -- the Rams took down the Go-Hawks 46, 19 --

while Cedar Rapids Prairie would fall to Bettendorf in their semi-final 51, 13 --

Top ranked Alburnett's steamrolled 1-A competition all season -- and that trend continued today in the semis against Clarion-Goldfield --.

At 182 -- Austin Hoyle took little time dispatching Bailey Kothe -- Hoyle picked up the pin just over a minute in to the match --

and that was a sign of things to come -- 195 pounder Robbie Carothers followed suit with a second period fall against Elliott Ahrens --
the Pirates notched 8 pins hammered the Cowboys 56, 24 --

Kane Thompson/Alburnett Head Coach
"We told them coming in that we're going to attack.  If you put a guy in danger, put him on his back, put him away.  You don't need to stay out there longer than you have to.  We're saying we're going to win duels, but we're going to win smart, and if we can rest guys we're going to rest them and still get the win."
