DNR issues reminder for ice fishers using state-owned property

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is reminding ice fishers to remove permanent ice fishing shelters from state-owned property.

The DNR says the deadline is February 20, 2013, or whenever the ice melts, whichever comes first.

Lori Eberhard, Park Manager at George Wyth State Park in Waterloo, said it's generally around this time of year that the DNR asks folks to remove their ice fishing shelters.

"The weather fluctuating can cause the ice to be unstable," she said.

Eberhard said fines could be issued if fishers don't remove their shelters from state-owned land by the 20th. But she said the most important thing is that folks follow the DNR policy for safety reasons.
