One person sent to hospital and charges pending in Jackson County crash

One person is recovering in the hospital, and charges are pending in crash in Jackson County.

The Jackson County Sheriff's office reports a deputy attempted to stop a car driving westbound on Highway 64 approximately eight miles east of Maquoketa. 

Authorities say The driver, 68-year-old Wilbur Bigler of West Union did not pull over, and continued driving westbound, and crossed over the white fog line in the road.

Eventually, the deputy made another attempt to pull Bigler over, but Bigler passed the squad car and continued driving. 

A Maquoketa police officer and Jackson County deputy then partially blocked off the roadway at Highway 64 and Jacobson Drive near Maquoketa city limits.

Bigler tried to avoid the obstruction, but collided with a squad car. 

Authorities say they had to wrestle Bigler out of the car and subdue him. Bigler was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Charges are pending as authorities investigate the crash.
