Icy roads lead to fatal crash in Grundy County

GRUNDY COUNTY (KWWL) -

The Grundy County Sheriff says icy roads led to a fatal one-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.  It happened just before 1:30 a.m. on Highway 14 about 3 miles south of Parkersburg.  Sheriff Rick Penning says 44-year-old Deann Eilers of Holland was headed south on the highway, lost control of her Jeep Grand Cherokee, went into a ditch and hit a utility pole.  A passenger, 44-year-old Sheila Cole of Grundy Center, died at the scene.  Eilers and another passenger, 49-year-old Harvin Rust of Grundy Center, were taken to local hospitals for treatment.  A third passenger, 48-year-old Susan Halbach of Grundy Center, was not injured.
