CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A Chicago man is in jail after police say he tried to steal a car, then tried to grab an officer's weapon.

Cedar Rapids police say they received a report around 5:30 p.m. Saturday of an assault and attempted robbery of a vehicle in the 1500 block of 1st Ave NE.  When officers arrived, they engaged in a brief chase with the suspect, Dajuan Slatton.

They say during Slatton's apprehension, he resisted officers and tried to take one of the officers' service weapon.  Slatton is in the Linn Co. Jail facing charges of robbery, interference with official acts and disarming a police officer of a dangerous weapon.
