Islamic Center holds voting for Linn County Casino

Voters went to the polls today on the first day of in-person absentee voting for the Linn County casino issue.

There's just one question on the ballot, asking voters if "gambling games at a casino" should be allowed in the county.

Today a satellite station was set up at the Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids.

Unlike the other remote voting locations, which are set up by the auditor, the Islamic Center petitioned to be a satellite location.

"We want to offer our civic duty and our venue for the community, based on our location and the size," said Timothy Hyatt, one of the Islamic Center Board of Directors.

There will be remote early voting at Westdale Mall most of next week, and at the Collins Road Theater the week after.

The gambling special election date is March 5, 2013.
