CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -
The UNI softball team opens its season against top ranked and defending NCAA champion Alabama at the UNI-Dome classic in front of a crowd of over 5,000.
Crimson tide coach and Waterloo native Patrick Murphy brings his "Bama" team into the dome, along with Waterloo West grad Jadyn Spencer, who got the start at first base tonight.
But the returning MVC Champion Panthers didn't want to go down without a fight; game remained scoreless through the first two innings, but in the top of the third, a dropped fly ball by the panthers allowed two runners to cross for Alabama.
And after that, the Tide rolled behind pitcher Jackie Traina, who pitched a complete game three-hitter with 12 strikeouts--the Tide rolls 8-1.
