Attempted child abduction reported to authorities

The Linn County Sheriff's Office received a complaint of an attempted child abduction Tuesday afternoon. The reported attempt happened near 2nd Street and Horizon Avenue in Fairfax, about 4:15 p.m.

Two girls, ages 10 and 12, say an older man and woman tried to lure them into their vehicle.

The man is described as having short gray hair, a goatee, and appeared to have a thin build.  The male was wearing a tan coat and plaid shirt at the time.

The woman was the driver, and described as having shoulder-length gray hair that was curly at the ends.

The girls described the car as being a dark blue Mazda four door sedan, possibly a Protégé, with rust on the rear passenger side.

If you have information about what happened, call the Linn County Sheriff's Office at 319-398-3911.
