IOWA CITY (KWWL) -
An Iowa City West High School student was selected to attend the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., next year.
Jackson Peplow was selected by the Naval Academy after being one of 10 students nominated by U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack (D- IA 2nd District) last year, according to a press release from Loebsack's office.
Loebsack met with Peplow and his mother, Nanci Kohl, at West High School to congratulate Peplow on his selection.
"It is a great honor to participate in the nomination process, and his selection is recognition of Jackson's hard work and determination," Loebsack said in the release. "Every Iowan should be proud of his future service to our nation."
Every year, Loebsack nominates up to 10 Iowans for openings at each Academy, with final selection for admission made by the individual Academy from that group.
Other Academies include the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., and the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.
