Free pancakes for a good cause in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Tuesday is National Pancake Day. IHOP restaurants across the nation are offering free pancakes for a good cause.

From 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. participants can go into any IHOP restaurant and get a free small stack of pancakes. In return, the restaurants ask for a donation of any size.

The money raised goes to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals' program at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.

Last year -- just at the Cedar Rapids restaurant -- they raised more than $1,500. They hope to break that record this year.

"I found out yesterday that there (are) 45 kids a day that are diagnosed with some sort of cancer that the Children's Miracle Network helps with," said Ben Judd, general manager. "So any money that we can give towards that and help all the kids out in the world would be great."

In 2012, IHOP restaurants nationwide served 4 million free pancakes on National Pancake Day.

Pancake lovers then donated $3 million to the children's charity.
