Choosing a Breakfast Cereal
1. Look at the ingredients list. "whole grain" or "whole wheat" should be the first ingredient. Other, natural, whole grains include barley, corn, oats, quinoa, rice, rye or spelt, just to name a few.
2. Fiber at least 3 grams per serving
3. Sodium less than 240 mg per serving
a. Milk adds ~ 100 mg sodium
b. Be especially careful with low calorie cereals
4. Sugar less than 7 grams per serving
a. Dried fruit may be coated in sugar (add you own instead)
