CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A Dubuque man has pleaded guilty in federal court of possession of a gun by an illegal drug user.

In a plea hearing in Cedar Rapids federal court on Thursday, 23-year-old Geromey Gilliand admitted that he was an unlawful marijuana user when he was arrested by Dubuque police on November 28 on an outstanding warrant.

Police say they found a .22 caliber pistol with a scratched-off serial number and marijuana in his possession during the arrest.

Gilliand, who faces up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release, will be sentenced at a later date.
