WAUKON (KWWL) -

Waukon's Gene Klinge has a lot of "firsts" to his name.  Thursday night he added another when he became the first girls' basketball coach in the state of Iowa to reach 1,000 career wins.  Klinge's squad knocked off MFL-MarMac 88-60 to pick up the milestone victory.

After close losses at New Hampton and Caledonia, Minnesota, the Waukon girls left no doubt this time.  Class 3A's leading scorer Daneshia Snitker notched a team high 32 points, while junior forward Alyssa Collins added 28 in the big win.

Klinge received a standing ovation and was presented with a plaque commemorating the milestone achieved over 51 years.  He spent the first 41 at West Central of Maynard notching 817 victories for the Blue Devils.
