PREVIOUS STORY: Ruud's first visit to UNI campus

The first of three University of Northern Iowa Presidential finalists is on campus.

William Ruud, currently President of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, addressed a large crowd at a public forum on the UNI campus Monday.

Nearly a year ago,  the university announced cuts to programs and other controversial cost saving measures. Concerned citizens packed Maucker Union to hear what Ruud might bring to the table.

The centerpiece of his presentation was a renewed embrace of the university's comprehensive and "student's First" approach to education.

Ruud told KWWL, "Other states have four or five or six of a UNI.  There is only one here. So that's a story that needs to be sold, and told, and embraced."

Ruud will also be in Cedar Falls on Tuesday.

The next candidate to make a visit is Avijit Ghosh, from the University of Illinois.
He will be on campus Wednesday and Thursday.
